What's New in the Local History Room? Lake Erie Islands Newspaper Articles from 1870-1933

The Local History and Museum Center has now become the only open source of a collection of local newspaper articles on the Lake Erie Islands from 1870-1933. The articles are taken from the Sandusky Daily Register, the Toledo Blade and the Sandusky Star Journal. They were compiled by Martin Taliak, Digitized and made searchable by Michael Gora both of Middle Bass Island. When delving into the collection the researcher or local history enthusiast may come across articles ranging from early life conditions on the islands, to fishing conservation woes and even some articles on Bessie, the Lake Erie Monster. It gives an unequaled eye into the lives of the people of the islands in the late 19th and early 20th century. To access the collection come into the library and make an inquiry at the front desk and we will be happy to set you up to see them.
